On May 2, 1991, Wu Yunduo, a national special worker model, passed away in Beijing
Thirty-four years ago today, on May 2, 1991 (March 18, 1991 lunar calendar), Wu Yunduo, a national model worker, passed away in Beijing. In the early 1950s, a book "Dedicate Everything to the Party" inspired an entire generation. So far, this book has been reprinted 44 times, and it continues to influence new generations as a series of revolutionary ideals and revolutionary education. The author of this book, Wu Yunduo, known as "China's Paul", ended his glorious life of 74 years and left the world on May 2, 1991. Wu Yunduo was a pioneer of the arms industry in our country and the first generation of worker writers in New China. In July 1953, Wu Yunduo's "Dedicate Everything to the Party" was first published in Beijing. Although this book is only 68,000 words, it has aroused an unusually strong response in society, especially for middle school students in the 1950s and 1960s. At that time, middle school students almost all carried this precious book in their schoolbags. Students read this book every time the Young Pioneers and the Communist Youth League activities day; students need to use this book when writing about extracurricular reading experiences; students also have this book listed in the winter and summer vacation reading list. It is like the motto of young students and becomes a signpost for young people's lives. Therefore, at that time, this book was a must-read textbook for all ambitious and ideal young people. Many young people naturally turn to this book to find answers to any difficulties they encounter in their studies and life, or write to the author of the book, Wu Yunduo, asking him to answer. Born into a poor peasant family, Wu Yunduo became a miner at the age of 12 and suffered inhumane torture. In 1938, he resolutely joined the New Fourth Army and engaged in the repair and manufacture of ordnance. A year later, he joined the Communist Party of China with honor. From then on, whether in the workshop where the motors were roaring or in the dangerous testing ground, Wu Yunduo kept researching and designing many weapons and equipment, and risked his life many times to do trial production experiments of various bombs and mines. Wu Yunduo's left eye was blinded, four fingers on his left hand were blown off, and both legs were disabled. With his perseverance, he fought against death again and again, and was hailed as "China's Paul" by the people of the liberated areas. Wu Yunduo's deeds touched the Soviet people at that time. They established the "China Paul Memorial Hall" at No. 14 Gorky Street in Moscow to express their high respect for the Ostrovsky-like figure.
