Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On January 15, 1559, Queen Elizabeth I of England was crowned
On this day 466 years ago, on January 15, 1559 (December 8, 1558 lunar calendar), Queen Elizabeth I of England was crowned. Elizabeth I Elizabeth I (born in Greenwich on September 7, 1533, died in Surrey on March 24, 1603), Queen of England and Ireland from November 17, 1558 to March 24, 1603, was the fifth and final monarch of the Tudor dynasty. She never married, so she was called the "Virgin Queen". She came to the throne in a state of internal chaos due to religious divisions, but she not only succeeded in keeping England united, but also made England one of the most powerful and wealthy countries in Europe after nearly half a century of rule. Elizabeth was crowned Queen at Westminster Abbey on 15 January 1559 in a precarious position. The date of her coronation was chosen by John Dee, a famous English mathematician and astrologer of the time, and it was said to be particularly auspicious. She was crowned by the Bishop of Carisle, who was the highest recognizer of her rightful place that could be found in the ecclesiastical world at that time. In the same year she had already signed the Treaty of Cado-Campage, which ended the Italian War. She died at Richmond Palace in Surrey on 24 March 1603. She was buried at Westminster Abbey. Her heir was James I. She is generally regarded as one of the most outstanding emperors in English history. During her 45 years in power, Britain's economy flourished, its literature flourished, and its military rose to become the world's leading naval power. She lived in a time when British kings were not just puppets, so she owes a significant part of the achievements of the British Golden Age.
