On this day 164 years ago, May 7, 1861 (March 28, 1861 in the lunar calendar), was the birthday of Indian poet Tagore. Smart and diligent since childhood, Tagore began to write poems at the age of 8 and was known as a "children's poet". He published the narrative poem "The Poet's Story" at the age of 17 and "The New Moon Collection" at the age of 25. In 1890, he wrote "Story Poem" on the basis of folk stories, which became a compulsory literary textbook for Indian universities, middle and primary schools. His lyric poem "Gitanjali" won him the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first writer in Asia to receive this honor. Tagore visited China in 1924 and wrote many articles after returning to China to express his friendly feelings towards the Chinese people. Tagore was rich in creation throughout his life. He wrote more than 50 poetry collections, 12 medium and long-form novels, more than 100 short stories, more than 20 plays, more than 2,000 songs, and many political articles. He began to learn painting at the age of 70 and created 1,500 works, which were exhibited in many parts of the world.
