The Mexican Revolution broke out on October 5, 1910
On this day, 115 years ago, October 5, 1910 (September 3, 1910 in the lunar calendar), the Mexican Revolution broke out. On October 5, 1910, Madero called on the Mexican people to rise and overthrow the dictatorship of Díaz, and the bourgeois revolution broke out in Mexico. Mexico held presidential elections in 1910. Díaz's more than 30 years of authoritarian rule caused widespread dissatisfaction. The liberal Madero put forward programs such as opposing dictatorship, protecting national industries and establishing a constitutional state, which received support from the people. Díaz arrested Madero, held a sham election in July, and declared himself the winner. Madero was released after the election and published the "San Luis Petosi Plan" in San Antonio, Texas on October 3, calling for Días to resign, allocate land and reform the electoral system, and called on the people to carry out an armed uprising. Revolution swept the country. In the north, Orozco and Villa led peasant troops to attack government troops; in the south, Sabata led farmers in armed struggle. In the spring of 1911, the rebels captured the city of Juárez. In May, Díaz was forced to resign and fled abroad. When Madero took office as president on November 6, he failed to fulfill his promise to return land to the farmers. Instead, he disarmed the peasant guerrillas and lenient supporters of the old regime, thus arousing dissatisfaction among the people. In February 1913, General Huerta of Díaz took advantage of the people's dissatisfaction with Madero and relied on U.S. support to launch a coup and assassinate Madero to steal power. The Mexican people launched an anti-Huerta struggle. In 1914, under the attack of Sabape and Villa Peasant Army, with the cooperation of workers 'strike and constitutionalists, Huerta stepped down and fled in July. In August, constitutionalist Carranza seized power and became president. In November, the U.S. intervention forces withdrew from Mexico. In 1916, the Kalanza government defeated the Peasant Army. In December of that year, under pressure from the people, the National Constitutional Conference was held. A new constitution was adopted and promulgated on February 5, 1917, marking the completion of Mexico's bourgeois democratic revolution of 1910-1917.
