Xu Shijie was born in 1951 in Yongji County, Jilin Province. He started working in 1969. He graduated from the Department of Mechanics of Northeast Forestry University in 1976 with a bachelor's degree. He graduated with a master's degree in flight mechanics from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1983. He received a doctorate in automation from Henri Pangaré University in France in 1995. From 1983 to 1993, he served as a teaching assistant, lecturer and associate professor in the general department of Harbin Institute of Technology. From 1995 to 2000, he served as a professor in the flight dynamics department of Harbin Institute of Technology. From 1997, he served as the director of the teaching and research department and the doctoral supervisor. During this period, he served as a visiting researcher at Jules Verne University in France from 1998 to 1999, and a visiting professor at Henri Pangaré University in France from 1999 to 2000. Since 2000, he has been a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Astronautics and Astronautics of Beihang University. He has served as a member of the school academic committee, the vice chairperson of the school association for science and technology, the vice chairperson of the presidium of the school teaching congress, the director of the school title evaluation and post appointment appeal committee, and the director of the Department of Aerospace Guidance, Navigation and Control. Xu Shijie has been engaged in teaching and scientific research in the fields of space dynamics and control, robust control theory and application, and deep space exploration for a long time. He has presided over the completion of a number of National Natural Science Foundation projects, manned space engineering projects, and space fund projects. He has won many scientific research awards such as the National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Defense Science and Industry Commission, and the Ministry of Space Research Achievement Award. He has served as a member of the Space Control Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Astronautics and a member of the Deep Space Exploration Professional Committee. He has published more than 200 academic papers and made outstanding contributions to the theoretical and technological development of China's space dynamics and control.
