"Nabucco" opera scene

"Nabucco" is the third opera written by Giuseppe Verdi and completed in the autumn of 1841. It is considered a work that established Verdi's status and reputation as a composer. "Nabucco" describes the defeat and expulsion of the Jews from their homeland by the Babylonian king Nabucco (Nebuchadnezzar II).

On March 9, 1842, it premiered successfully at the La Scala Opera in Milan. The famous chorus "Fly! Thought, on Golden Wings!", also known as "Slave Chorus", is the most classic segment of this opera.

Verdi (1813-1901) was the most representative opera composer during the 19th century Italian opera revival. Born in a small business family, he applied for the Milan Conservatory of Music and was not accepted. Later, he studied composition and orchestration from Lavinia. The creation is based on national folk music and draws on advanced foreign experience, and has achieved fruitful results.
