On this day, 244 years ago, on March 13, 1781 (February 19, 1781 in the lunar calendar), British astronomer Herschel discovered Uranus. On March 13, 1781, British astronomer F. W. Herschel, with the assistance of his sister C. L. Herschel, discovered Uranus while conducting sky surveys with a homemade telescope. The Royal Society awarded him the Copley Medal for this and recommended him as a member. F. W. Herschel was born on November 15, 1738 in Hanover, Germany. I like astronomical observations. In 1782, he was hired as court astronomer of the Third George of England. His sister accompanied his brother in astronomical research all his life. Therefore, his contribution was the Herschel brothers and sisters. In addition to discovering Uranus, his main contributions include building telescopes, exploring the Milky Way, and observing nebulae and binary stars. F.W.
