Cartoon characters created by American cartoonist Alzie Seagal in 1929 PopeyeFirst appearance in the manga "Thimble Theatre". Popeye, also known as Popeye the Sailor Man, is an American comic book character. Popeye appeared in the American "Thimble Theatre" comic strip on January 17, 1929. The creator was E.C. Seeger, a serial cartoonist from Chester Town, Illinois. Popeye's comic strip was very popular as soon as it came out, and there was even a local craze for eating spinach. In 1933, it was made into a short cartoon film by Fleischer Studios and distributed to Paramount Pictures, which became popular all over the world. Fleischer Studios shot 108 episodes, which were filmed by Famous Studios, Paramount's own animation department, in 1942. It stopped shooting in 1957, and 126 episodes were filmed. Television cartoons were released in 1960. Bupai, a one-eyed, unkempt sailor who smoked a pipe and boxed, had a troubled girlfriend named Olive Oly, who often needed Bupai's protection. Bupai, always after eating a can of spinach, would beat Brutus, the dumb donkey who was the bad guy and rival in love, in one of the most classic scenes in the Popeye cartoon. After Seagal died in 1938, the series was succeeded by Bela Zaboly and Tom Sims. It was succeeded by Bud Sagendorf in 1958. It has been serialized in 500 newspapers around the world and has produced hundreds of animated cartoons. In 1999, Bupai and Olive ended their 70-year "love run", and the lovers finally got married.
