Thirty-three years ago today, on April 16, 1992 (March 14, 1992), China sent UN peacekeepers to Phnom Penh for the first time. The advance team of the Chinese Military Engineering Brigade to Cambodia set off on the morning of April 16, 1992. The advance team of 30 officers and men of the Military Engineering Brigade to Cambodia flew from Beijing to Phnom Penh under the leadership of the captain of the Military Engineering Brigade to Cambodia. This operation was at the request of the UN Secretary-General. The Chinese government decided to send a 400-member military engineering brigade to participate in the peacekeeping operation of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia. The officers and men of the advance team wore camouflage uniforms, the right arm wore a blue armband with the UN logo, the left arm wore a red armband with the English word "China" on it, and the blue beret was embellished with the UN emblem. The machinery and vehicles equipped were all painted white according to the unified requirements of the United Nations, and were marked with the eye-catching UN logo. The military engineering brigade to Cambodia was mainly responsible for the maintenance of airports, roads and bridges in the Phnom Penh area of the Cambodian capital. Before departure, General Chi Haotian, Chief of General Staff, and the deputy chiefs of general staff visited the unit. It is the first time in the history of our country that troops have been dispatched to participate in UN peacekeeping operations. This is conducive to the peace and development of Cambodia and South East Asia, and fully reflects our country's consistent position and desire to maintain world peace and support a political settlement of the Cambodian issue. The second batch of 20 Chinese engineers to Cambodia arrived in Phnom Penh on the 17th. On the morning of April 24, 370 Chinese engineers participating in the UN peacekeeping operation in Cambodia arrived in Kampong Son Port in Cambodia by boat.
