37 years ago today, on May 5, 1988 (March 20, 1988 lunar calendar), the Sino-Japanese and Nepalese joint mountaineering teams successfully crossed Mount Everest. On February 24, 1987, China, Japan and Nepal signed the "Sino-Japanese and Nepalese 1988 Everest/Sagamata Friendly Mountaineering Agreement" in Beijing after 14 consultations. At 12:44 on May 5, 1988, China Tsering Dorjee, Japan Yamada Sheng, and Nepal Ang-Lakba reached the summit on the north side and crossed the south slope after 99 minutes at the peak. At 14:20 and 15:35, China Li Zhixin and Nepal Rabak-Sona reached the summit on the north side, but they failed to join forces with the team on the south side and retreated. At 15:53, on the south side, China's Daishiren and Nepal's Ange-Puba reached the summit. At 16:05, Japan's Masahiko Yamamoto reached the summit from the north side, realizing the ideal of meeting the north and south team members. At 16:25, Daishiren and Ange-Puba met with Japanese TV reporters Nakamura Province, Mitsuji and Nakamura on the north side at the summit. At 16:40, China's Rinchen Phuntsok reached the summit successfully, and at 16:43 he crossed to the north slope. At 17:00, all the team members evacuated the summit and successfully achieved the main goal of this mountaineering - double-crossing Mount Everest. All 12 members of the joint mountaineering team reached the summit, and 6 of them successfully made a north-south leap for the first time in the history of human mountaineering, achieving the goal of human beings meeting their troops at the Tsering Dorjee became the first Chinese to cross Mount Everest from the northern slope to the southern slope.
