January 25, 1949 The first Emmy Awards were held at the Hollywood Sports Club
Seventy-six years ago today, on January 25, 1949 (December 27, 1948), the first Emmy Awards were held at the Hollywood Athletic Club. The "Emmy Awards" (Emmy Awards) actually consist of two awards. We usually refer to the Emmy Awards for primetime shows, which are presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) based in Los Angeles. There is also a daytime Emmy Award, which is presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) based in New York. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was established in 1946 and awarded the Emmy Awards for the first time on January 25, 1949. Louis McManus designed the Emmy trophy with his wife as a model. The original name of the award was "Immy", a nickname for an important part of the early camera gun. Before the first awards ceremony, the academy decided to change the name to "Emmy" because the seat was full of women, and the name has been used to this day.
