Breaking-News >> TodayHistory 1274 March 7 Italian theologian Thomas Aquinas dies
On this day, 751 years ago, March 7, 1274 (January 27, 1274), Italian theologian Thomas Aquinas passed away. Thomas Aquinas (circa 1225-March 7, 1274) was a philosopher and theologian of medieval Scholasticism. He was also named Doctor of Angel (Angel Saint) or Doctor of Almighty after his death. He was one of the earliest advocates of natural theology and the founder of the Thomas School of Philosophy, becoming an important basis for Catholic philosophy research for a long time. The most famous book he wrote is The Summa of Theology. The Catholic Church considers him the greatest theologian in history and named him one of the 33 Church Holy Teachers. Around the beginning of 1225, Aquinas was born in the Castle of Roccasecca in the Kingdom of Naples, whose lord was his father, Count Randolph. His uncle Sinibalde was the abbot of the nearby Benedictine monastery on Mount Cassino. At the age of five, he entered a continuing education college, and at the age of sixteen, he attended the University of Naples and studied for six years. During this period, he unexpectedly joined the Dominicans, which and the Franciscans jointly launched a revolutionary challenge to the clergy established in early medieval Europe. In 1244, he was sent to the Dominic Seminary in Cologne, where he studied philosophy and theology under the Great Albert. In 1245, he followed Albert the Great to the University of Paris for three years. In 1252 Aquinas went to Paris to study for a master's degree, and in 1256 he received a degree and teaching position; in 1259, he held an important position in the diocese of Valenciennes. At the request of Pope Urban IV, he moved to Rome. In 1263, he appeared in the Dominican Order in London. In 1288, he went to Rome and Bologna to give lectures, and died on March 7, 1274.
