On April 22, 2006, ancient Chinese literature expert Meng Erdong passed away
On April 22, 2006 (March 25, 2006 in the lunar calendar), Meng Erdong, an expert on ancient China literature, passed away. Meng Erdong was born in Suxian County, Anhui Province in 1957. He is a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of China Language and Literature at Peking University. Over the years, he has adhered to the party's education policy and unremittingly educated students to pursue true knowledge and establish life ideals. He has been awarded the honorary titles of "Outstanding Communist Party Member" and "Outstanding Teacher Model" by the Party Committee of Peking University. In March 2004, Meng Erdong took the initiative to participate in Peking University's counterpart support for the teaching work of Shihezi University in Xinjiang. The second week after arriving at Shihezi University, he developed severe hoarse throat symptoms. After the doctor issued the doctor's order to "silence", he endured his pain and stood on the podium. On April 26, 2004, while coughing violently, he insisted on finishing the last class of "Tang Dynasty Literature" and fell on the podium. Subsequently, the hospital diagnosed him with esophageal malignant tumor. At 1:20 a.m. on April 23, 2006, Meng Erdong died at Beijing City Cancer Hospital due to malignant tumor (advanced stage), but treatment was ineffective. He was only 49 years old.
