70 years ago today, on March 24, 1955 (March 1, 1955 lunar calendar), China's first watch was born in Tianjin. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, according to the plan proposed by then Premier Zhou Enlai to "fill the industrial gap", at the end of 1954, the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Light Industry approved the establishment of a watch trial production group (the predecessor of Tianjin Watch Factory). Four workers, Jiang Zhengyin, Sun Wenjun, Wang Cimin and Zhang Shuwen, guarded four simple instruments in a hut with 100 yuan allocated by the bureau. After more than 100 days of hard work day and night, they finally developed the "China's first watch" at 5:45 on March 24, 1955. "This is the first domestic watch trial produced by the working class in our country, filling another gap in the industrial construction of New China." After the trial production began, they encountered even greater difficulties. Among the more than 140 parts of the watch, the thinnest was thinner than paper, the thinnest was like a needle tip, and the smallest was smaller than a grain of rice. The error of aperture and shaft diameter was several times smaller than that of a hair. The meshing of gears depended on eyesight and manual finesse. They found a Swiss "Sindacal" fifteen-diamond three-needle watch, one by one. The simple machine tool could only process the blank, most of which were cut by hand. On March 26, 1955, the "Tianjin Workers' Daily" reported that "our country's homemade watch was successful." This watch is simple and elegant. It has three gold characters "made in China" on the dial, and 5 red stars. It is marked with the words "fifteen diamonds" below, and it is named "five-star" brand. Development abroad In 1735 (the 13th year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty), Yongzheng died suddenly, when Qianlong ascended the throne. In the Jura Mountains in western Switzerland, in the small town of Villeret on the border with France, J.J. Blancpain, a 42-year-old teacher, established a watchmaking workshop on the second floor of the mail carrier's inn to produce pocket watch parts. This is the first registered watch brand in the world. In 1755, 24-year-old watchmaker J.M. Vacheron established a watchmaking workshop in Geneva, starting the history of Vacheron Constantin. In 1775 (40 years after Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty), 28-year-old Swiss watchmaker A. L. Breguet founded the predecessor of Breguet watches in Paris. In 1833, 30-year-old Swiss watchmaker A. LeCoultre founded a workshop in the mountains north of Geneva to develop watchmaking equipment, which was the predecessor of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches. In 1839, Polish Antoine Patek founded the Swiss Patek watch company, and in 1851 it was renamed Patek Philippe. In 1868, Patek Philippe made the world's first watch (bracelet watch) for the Hungarian Countess Koscowicz. In 1908, German Wiesdorf registered the Rolex brand in Switzerland.
