On January 23, 1912, Zhang Rong, a modern bourgeois revolutionary, was murdered by Zhao Erxun and Zhang Zuolin
On this day, 113 years ago, on January 23, 1912 (December 5, 1911, the lunar calendar), modern bourgeois revolutionary Zhang Rong was murdered by Zhao Erxun and Zhang Zuolin. In 1905, Zhang Rong went to Beijing and founded a secret publication to publicize the revolution. In September of the same year, he and Wu Yue conspired at Beijing's Qianmen Station to bomb five ministers of the Qing government who had gone abroad to inspect constitutional government. They were arrested and imprisoned by the Qing government on treason. In 1908, Zhang Rong escaped from prison and fled to Tokyo, Japan. He changed his name to Huang Renbao and soon joined the Alliance. In 1910, Zhang Rong returned to Dalian to prepare to launch an uprising. After the Wuchang Uprising, he and Zhao Erxun and others organized the "Fengtian National Security Association" and served as vice president but did not take office; instead, he organized the "Fengtian Joint Emergency Advance Association" and served as president to plan an armed uprising. Due to abiding by the armistice treaty negotiated between the north and the south, it was not implemented. Zhao Erxun was then the last governor of the three northeastern provinces in the Qing Dynasty. He used a two-faced tactic and sent his confidant Yuan Jinjai as the inside man to wait for the opportunity to kill Zhang Rong. On the evening of January 23, 1912, Yuan Jinkai encouraged Zhang Rong to invite Zhang Zuolin to hold a banquet at Deyi Building in Daxiguan. Zhang Rong didn't know what a plan was. When the wine and rice were about to be over, Yuan Jinkai used an excuse to send Zhang Zuolin away first. After the banquet ended, Zhang Rong was shot and killed on the spot as he was walking back. He was 28 years old at the time. The assassin was Zhang Zuolin's secret agent. The resulting white terror shrouded the entire city of Shenyang, killing revolutionaries one after another, and the Revolution of 1911 was completely aborted in Shenyang. Comment: The assassination of Zhang Rong caused the Revolutionary Party in Shenyang to lose its leader, and the Revolution of 1911 was completely aborted in Shenyang.
