On January 15, 2015 (November 25, 2014 in the lunar calendar), Fang Wenping, former commander of the Shanxi Province Military Region, was investigated. According to China Military Network, on January 15, 2015, the authoritative department of the military announced the investigation and handling of major corruption cases involving cadres at or above the military level in 2014. Among them,"Fang Wenping, the former commander of the Shanxi Province Military Region, was suspected of serious violations of discipline. In March 2014, the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Military Commission opened an investigation against him, and was transferred to the military judicial organs for handling in accordance with the law in May 2014. Fang Wenping was born in October 1950, native of Beijing City, has a bachelor's degree in correspondence from the Central Party School, and has the rank of major general. He started working in February 1968 and has served in the Beijing Military Region for a long time. After joining the army, Fang Wenping served as a soldier and squad leader of the Artillery Regiment of the 38th Army, as a staff member of the Training Unit of the 38th Army Rocket Regiment Command, as a staff member of the Training Unit of the 114th Division Artillery Regiment Command, as a staff member of the Training Department of the Artillery Command of the Beijing Military Region, and as a training section chief of the 14th Artillery Division Command. In 1983, Fang Wenping served as deputy director of the Training Department of the 65th Army Command, director of the Artillery Department, and director of the Artillery Command of the 65th Group Army Command. In 1992, he was transferred to the 27th Group Army and served successively as deputy chief of staff, commander of the 80th Division, and director of the Logistics Department. In 2000, Fang Wenping was promoted to chief of staff of the Hebei Province Military Region. In 2005, he was promoted again to serve as commander of the Shanxi Province Military Region. The following year, he joined the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee. On September 14, 2010, the Shanxi Province Military Region held a meeting to announce the adjustment of the provincial military region's leadership team. Lieutenant General Dong Wancai, director of the Political Department of the Beijing Military Region, announced the order of the Central Military Commission that Liu Yunhai would be appointed commander of the Shanxi Province Military Region and Fang Wenping would be removed from his post as commander of the Shanxi Province Military Region. After that, Fang Wenping served as an inspector of the Beijing Military Region. The provincial-level military region is a military-level organization established by the Central Military Commission in the highest-level local administrative region of the country. It is a military region organization. It is also the military work department of the provincial (city, autonomous region) committees of the Communist Party of China and the military service work organization of the provincial (city, autonomous region) governments. It is subject to the dual leadership of the military region and the provincial (city, autonomous region) party committee and government. It is worth noting that in the past year, systemic and collapsed corruption problems broke out in Shanxi Province. Within a few months, nine provincial and ministerial officials who had worked in Shanxi for a long time were dismissed, including six current or former members of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee. On February 27, 2014, Jin Daoming, then deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Province People's Congress, was announced to investigate. Since then, the earthquake in Shanxi official circles has continued to ferment. In more than two months from June to August 2014, six more provincial and ministerial officials were investigated. They were: Du Shanxue, then member of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Vice Governor; Ling Zhiguo, then Vice Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Chen Chuanping, then member of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Taiyuan Municipal Party Committee; Nie Chunyu, then member of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Secretary General; Bai Yun, then member of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work; and Ren Runhou, then Vice Governor of Shanxi Province. Senior officials exported from Shanxi were not spared. On April 12, 2014, Shen Weichen, then Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, was notified of his dismissal; on November 20, Liang Bin, then member of the Standing Committee of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Minister of Organization, was notified of his dismissal. Both have served in Shanxi for many years.
