On this day, 47 years ago, March 7, 1978 (January 29, 1978 in the lunar calendar), Nai Win was re-elected President of Myanmar. Wu Naiwen's original name was Deqin Xiumao. He also followed the Burmese national hero Aung San in the national independence movement and co-founded the Burmese Independence Army with Aung San and was known as the "father of the Burmese Army." After 1949, Nai Win served as Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff of the Burmese Army for a long time. In 1962, U Nai Win founded the Myanmar Socialist Platform Party and served as chairman. Since then, he has served as the top leader of the Myanmar party, government and military. Until April 1972, Nai Win announced that he would "return power to the people" and resigned from the military to serve as chairman of the Revolutionary Council and prime minister. At the beginning of 1974, the new constitution was implemented, the Revolutionary Council was dissolved, the democratically elected government was established, and U Ne Win was elected chairman of the State Council, or president. On March 7, 1978, the People's Assembly of Myanmar elected U Ne Win to be re-elected as Chairman of the Council of State and President. In November 1981, Nai Win announced his resignation as chairman of the State Council and was replaced by Wu Shanyou. In July 1988, Nai Win resigned as chairman of the Platform Party and was replaced by Nu Sheng Lun. Nu Ne Win visited China 12 times before and after. He died in Yangon on December 5, 2002.
