Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On April 10, 1956, Gomulka was released by the Polish government
69 years ago today, April 10, 1956 (February 30, 1956 in the lunar calendar), Gomulka was released by the Polish government. On April 10, 1956, Vladislav Gomulka, the Polish political leader who was arrested in 1951 for deviating from the party line and having pro-nationalist ideas, was released and restored. The Polish Communist Party said Gomulka had made mistakes, but his arrest and confinement were unfair. The party also restored the reputation of the "patriotic Polish army" that helped defeat Hitler's army in 1944. Stalin had believed that some members of this army were allied with the exiled Polish government and therefore reactionary. More political prisoners are also expected to be released.
