Breaking-News >> TodayHistory American physical chemist Richards died on April 2, 1928
97 years ago today, on April 2, 1928 (February 12, 1928 in the lunar calendar), American physical chemist Richards passed away. Richards Richards is a famous American chemist and the first person in the United States to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He is known as an "expert in measuring atomic weight." On January 31, 1868, Richards was born in an art family in Philadelphia. He loved painting since childhood, but was more obsessed with astronomy and chemistry. In 1885, he went to Harvard University for further study and studied and worked under the guidance of D. P. Cooke. During his study in Germany, he was inspired by V. Meyer's measurement of molecular weights of organic compounds. After returning to Harvard, he continued to carry out atomic weight measurement. At the age of 20, he received a doctorate, making him the youngest doctorate since Harvard was founded. He did not believe in authority and questioned the previous atomic weights. He improved the test method, accurately verified the atomic weights of more than 60 elements, and studied the isotopes of lead. In addition to teaching at Harvard, he also serves as director of the Walcott Gibbs Institute and was twice elected president of the American Chemical Society. He is also a professor known for his good teaching and has trained many famous physical chemists, such as L.J. Huntsen, G.N. Lewis, etc. On April 2, 1928, he died at Harvard University at the age of 60. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/19hm.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.28-06:50] 访问:72
