Qin Zhongwen (1896-1974) was a famous landscape painter. His original name was Qin Yurong, known as Zhong Wen, and later took Qin Yu as his pen name. People from Zunhua, Hebei. In 1915, he entered the Law Department of Peking University. In 1918, he participated in the Peking University Painting Research Association hosted by Cai Yuanpei and studied painting from He Luzhi, Chen Shizeng, Tang Dingzhi, etc. Later, he specialized in mountains and rivers and participated in the China Painting Research Association hosted by Jincheng. He was able to copy ancient texts and lay a profound foundation for tradition. In the 1930s and 1940s, he taught at the School of Art of Peking University, the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts, and the National Academy of Art, as well as studying historical theory. In 1934, he wrote "The History of Painting in China". After 1949, he served as a painter and member of the Beijing Academy of Painting. Qin Zhongwen is also an art historian. In addition to "The History of China Painting" in the 1930s, he has published a large number of articles criticizing contemporary painters.
