On January 28, 2002 (December 16, 2001 in the lunar calendar), the Zhanhai Line of the Guangdong-Hainan Railway Corridor was officially opened. On January 28, 2002, China's first Guangdong-Haihai Railway Channel across the Taiwan Strait was officially opened for operation, ending the history of no railway transportation on the Leizhou Peninsula. The total length of the Guangdong-Haihai Railway Corridor is 568.3 kilometers, and the Zhanhai-Haihai Line officially opened for operation has a total length of 138 kilometers. It is an important part of the Guangdong-Haihai Railway Corridor.
