After an hour of fierce fighting, more than 3,000 people from the 31st Brigade and a regiment were wiped out, and the brigade commander Li Jiyun was captured. After Hu Zong occupied Yan'an in the south, he was eager to find the main force of the Northwest Field Army for a decisive battle. Under the command of Peng Dehuai, the Northwest Field Army concentrated the main force of the first, second column and the new fourth brigade in Qinghuabian, northeast of Yan'an, and used a battalion to disguise the main force to lure Hu Zong from the south to Anse in the northwest of Yan'an. To ensure the safety of the flanks, Hu Zongnan advanced north along the Yanyu Highway from the 31st Brigade of the 27th Division, just in time to enter the ambush circle.
