73 years ago today, on August 1, 1952 (June 11, 1952 lunar calendar), the construction of the "Monument to the People's Heroes" started. On August 1, 1952, the "Monument to the People's Heroes" officially started construction. The monument is located in the center of Tiananmen Square, with a total construction area of 3,000 square meters. The height of the monument is 37.94 meters, and the top of the monument is the traditional top type of the nation. The body of the monument is made of 413 granite rocks of different sizes. The front of the monument faces Tiananmen Square, and there are 8 large characters "People's Heroes are Immortal" written by Mao Zedong. On the back is an inscription written by Zhou Enlai. The upper layer is engraved with eight garlands composed of chrysanthemums, lotus flowers, lilies, peonies, etc.; the lower layer is inlaid with 10 large white marble reliefs, which represent the revolutionary historical facts of the Opium War, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement, the Wuchang Uprising, the May 4th Movement, the May 30th Movement, the Nanchang Uprising, the Anti-Japanese War, and the liberation of Nanjing for more than 100 years. Under the two floors is a double platform surrounded by white jade railings, with steps on all sides extending to the surrounding flower beds and grasslands. The whole building is tall, tall, beautiful and solemn. The Monument to the People's Heroes is a place for domestic tourists to remember the people's heroes and hold commemorative activities. Before this, on September 30, 1949, the first meeting of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese People's Government decided to establish the Monument to the People's Heroes in the capital Beijing, and held a groundbreaking ceremony. It was built to commemorate the people's heroes who died in the People's Liberation War and the people's revolution since the Opium War. Since then, experts from all over the country have proposed more than 100 construction plans. According to the final plan, it was built in April 1958.
