May 9, 1800, the birth of American abolitionist leader Brown
On this day 225 years ago, on May 9, 1800 (April 16, 1800 lunar calendar), the American abolitionist leader Brown was born. John Brown, born on May 9, 1800, wandered in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York and other places in his early years. He worked as a tanner, a sheep trader, a wool merchant, and a farmer, but he could not make a living. Although he was white, he led his family to settle in a black ghetto in 1849. He had long opposed slavery and wanted to help blacks get just treatment. In 1855, he led his five sons to form an anti-slavery guerrilla. In 1858, he held a convention attended by some blacks and whites, announced the establishment of a base for the shelter of fugitive slaves, and passed the "Provisional Constitution of the American People". He was the commander-in-chief. Caught fighting with the District Guard in 1859 and later hanged, Brown failed to establish equal black-white relations as he wished, but his spirit of fighting for slaves had a profound impact.
