Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The Battle of Menglianggu began on May 13, 1947
On this day, 78 years ago, on May 13, 1947 (March 23, 1947 in the lunar calendar), the Battle of Meng Lianggu began. The Battle of Menglianggu, launched on May 13, 1947, created an example of our army cutting off the main offensive force from the center of the enemy's front while the enemy's heavy army was densely advancing. It attacked Chiang Kai-shek's most powerful offensive direction and the most elite troops. Moreover, this attack occurred on the eve of a full-scale counterattack in the Jiefang District, so it had special and significant influence and significance. At the beginning of 1947, after the Battle of Laiwu, the enemy's total strength on the Shandong battlefield reached 24 integrated divisions and 60 brigades with approximately 450,000 people. The enemy learned the lesson that in the past, split attacks were often divided and annihilated, and decided to adopt the tactics of concentrating troops, closing together intensively, attacking steadily, and advancing hand in hand. The first step is to completely occupy the Southern Shandong Jiefang District, and the second step is to achieve its goal of occupying the entire Shandong Jiefang District. In late March, the enemy launched an attack. By early April, the first step of the plan was completed, and then steadily advanced towards Zhongshan Area in Shandong. During the more than a month since the enemy launched the attack, our army in East China implemented a high degree of maneuver in southern and central Shandong, striving to mobilize the enemy and capture fighter jets. However, because the enemy maintained a high degree of vigilance and adopted new tactics of intensive and flat pushing, steady progress, and not easily dividing troops, most battles failed to achieve the intended goals. In early May, the Central Military Commission reminded the East China Field Army many times: For dense offensive enemies, it is necessary to lure the enemy deep, and the vast area south of the Jiaoji Road can be opened into a mobile battlefield; We must have great patience and have the greatest strength at hand. We must not be impatient, divide our troops, or disturb the enemy's retreat. Let the enemy move forward with courage. There is always a chance to annihilate the enemy. In every action, we must not only estimate one possibility, but more than two possibilities, and control the main force in a mobile position to cope with various possible situations. The East China Field Army carefully studied the instructions of the Central Military Commission, summarized the combat situation in the previous stage, and decided to move the main force of our army eastward in mid-May. At this time, Tang Enbo, commander of the enemy's First Corps, changed the tactics of steady and steady attack. Without waiting for the neighboring corps to act in unison, he focused on the reorganization 74th Division, with the reorganization 25th and 83rd Divisions cooperating on the left and right wings, and with Tanbu on the Yimeng Highway as the main target, he invaded north from the east and west areas of Duozhuang, southeast of Mengyin. The reorganized 74th Division is an elite unit equipped with U.S. equipment that the Kuomintang army has since become one of the "five main forces." After the outbreak of full-scale civil war, the enemy has always regarded it as a backbone force in attacking the East China Jiefang District. It has fought with our army several times, but it has not received a major blow, which has also boosted its arrogance. It is the long-cherished wish of our army in East China to defeat this "trump card" of the Kuomintang army. Our army decided to launch an offensive against the enemy at Menglianggu at dusk on May 13. The enemy's attack was repelled that night and an all-round offensive was launched the next morning. By dawn on the 15th, the 74th Division was surrounded by our army in Menglianggu and the narrow area north of it. After the integrated 74th Division was besieged, the enemy's headquarters believed that the division had strong combat effectiveness and was an opportunity to fight a decisive battle with our army. Therefore, on the one hand, the division was ordered to hold its position, and on the other hand, 10 integrated divisions from other regions were ordered to send reinforcements to Meng Lianggu in an attempt to attack both inside and outside and gather and annihilate our army. On the 15th, the enemy and the enemy repeatedly competed for the commanding heights near Meng Lianggu, and the battle was unprecedentedly fierce. At 5 p.m. on the 16th, our army wiped out all more than 32,000 people from the 74th Division and a regiment of the 83rd Division, and killed Lieutenant General Zhang Lingfu, commander of the 74th Division. Our army also suffered more than 12,000 casualties. The destruction of the 74th Division caused the enemy to lose an important force in attacking Shandong and was forced to temporarily stop its attack on Shandong. Tang Enbo, commander of the First Corps, was dismissed from his post. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1269.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.28-06:48] 访问:73
