On this day, 38 years ago, on March 31, 1987 (March 3, 1987 in the lunar calendar), Van Gogh's "Sunflower" was sold for 22.5 million pounds. On the evening of March 31, 1987, at Christie's auction house in London, England, a painting of "Sunflower" by Dutch painter Van Gogh was being auctioned. Bids soared from £ 5 million and increased fourfold in four minutes-to £ 20 million. Finally, the ring of the long-distance call came: "22.5 million pounds!" This staggering bid was unmatched, and the painting was sold to an unknown buyer. People later learned that the painting was purchased by Yasuda Fire and Marine Insurance Company of Japan. To celebrate the company's 100th anniversary, the painting is scheduled to be shipped back to Japan this fall. After touring, it will be displayed at the Dongxiang Qinger Art Museum on the 42nd floor of the company's headquarters building. According to British regulations, after famous paintings are sold to foreigners, they have to wait several months before they can be exported. During this period, if British people pay the same amount of money, they will get the painting first. Whether Japanese buyers can get their way is still uncertain. On June 09, 1998, the "Sunflower" purchased at a high price in Japan was suspected to be a fake. Norman, a British art identification expert, believes that the "Sunflower" purchased by Yasuda Company in Japan was copied by a Frenchman named Skoufennak. Skoufennak was a friend of Gauguin and once kept Van Gogh's "Sunflower". News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1byz.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.28-06:47] 访问:66
