Breaking-News >> TodayHistory April 10, 1932: Hindenburg rose in the vote and defeated Hitler
93 years ago today, on April 10, 1932 (March 5, 1932 in the lunar calendar), Hindenburg's vote rose to defeat Hitler. Hindenburg's vote rose, so did Hitler's vote. On April 10, 1932, in the second election for the German president, Paul von Hindenburg defeated Hitler by 6 million votes. Hindenburg's strength was strengthened in the last election, but gained 2 million more votes. Hindenburg received 53% of the total vote, and Hitler received nearly 37%. German traditionalists hoped that the election result would help enlightened forces in the country, but Hitler portrayed the election as a victory for the National Socialist Party. "This victory should be grateful to those who created the conditions for victory, but we must also shoulder the heavy responsibility of striving for further victory." Hitler said,"The Socialists do not know what rest means and will not stop until the goal of German liberation is achieved."
