At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when Madrid, the capital of Spain, had just passed through the Spanish-American War and domestic chaos, football enthusiast Carlos Padros decided to promote football in the city. After several years of preparation, 1902 The Madrid Social Club was officially established on March 6, organized by the British Arthur. Johnson served as the first head coach, and Padros's brother Juan Padros became chairman. On April 22, 1902, the club was officially recognized by the government, and Madrid Football Club was established.

In the early days of its establishment, the club participated more in regional-level leagues and simple "local leagues", while participating in national-level competitions started from the Spanish Cup of Kings, which was officially launched in 1903. The club won the championship in the first four Copa del Rey. At that time, Spain had not yet hosted a national league. Only the Spanish Cup was hosted by the royal family. Madrid won the championship for the first time in 1905 and won it in the following three consecutive years.
