Li Zicheng conquered Beijing and the Ming Dynasty fell

Li Zicheng (1606.8-1645), the leader of the peasant uprising in the late Ming Dynasty. Formerly known as Hongji. When he was proclaimed emperor, Li Jiqian was the ancestor of Taizu. He lived in Shaanxi Mizhi Li Jiqian Village.

When he was a child, he shepherded sheep to the landlord (one said that his family was very wealthy), and he used to be a post soldier in Yinchuan. In the second year of the uprising in Chongzhen (1629), he later became a general under Gao Yingxiang, the king of Chuang, who was brave and knowledgeable. During the eight-year Xingyang Conference, he proposed a plan of dividing troops into directional and four-way attacks, which was approved by the leaders of various ministries, and his reputation grew. After Gao Yingxiang sacrificed the following year, he continued to be known as the king of Chuang. In eleven years, he was defeated in Tongguan, and only led Liu Zongmin and more than ten others to hide in the Luocong Mountains (in the Henan-Shaanxi border area). The following year, he came out of the

In 13 years, he was trapped in Yufu Mountain in Brazil. He broke through with 50 cavalry and entered Henan. At that time, the Central Plains suffered severe disasters and extremely acute class conflicts. Li Yan put forward slogans such as "Equalization of farmland and exemption from taxes", which were welcomed by the broad masses of the people and spread the ballad of "Welcome the king, but no food." The army grew to one million people and became the main force in the Peasants 'War. In the 16th year of Chongzhen (1643), he was called Xinshun King in Xiangyang. In the same year, he annihilated the main force of Sun Chuanting, governor of Shaanxi in the Ming Dynasty, in Ruzhou, Henan (now Linru), and seized the victory and occupied Xi'an. In the first month of the following year, the Dashun regime was established, with the year name Yongchang.

On March 18, 1644, Li Zicheng sent Du Xun, the eunuch who surrendered in Changping, into the city to secretly negotiate with Chongzhen. According to Volume 4 of the "Supplementary Examination of the Year", Li Zicheng put forward the conditions as follows: "Chuang will strengthen his troops, discuss ceding the northwest region to divide the king and reward millions of troops, and retreat to Henan... Since Chuang has been granted a title, he is willing to serve the court to suppress the bandits, especially with strong troops to help suppress the Liao Fan. But I didn't obey the imperial edict and visit the audience. Negotiations between the two sides broke down. In the early morning of March 19, Zhang Jinyan, Minister of the Ministry of War, took the initiative to open Zhengyang Gate and attack Beijing to welcome Liu Zongmin's army. Emperor Chongzhen hanged himself in Jingshan, and the Ming Dynasty was destroyed. Li Zicheng ordered a "ceremonial burial" and set up a factory for public sacrifice outside Donghua Gate, and later moved into a Buddhist temple. On the 27th, he was buried in the tomb of Consort Tian. Li Zicheng moved into the Forbidden City and made the palace maid Dou Meiyi his concubine.

Because the leader of the uprising made the mistake of being proud during the victory, he persecuted Wu Sangui's family. Forcing Wu Sangui to rebel, Manchu nobles entered the Pass and jointly attacked the peasant army. He faced the defeat, withdrew from Beijing, and led his army to fight in Henan and Shaanxi. In the second year of Yongchang (1645), he inspected the terrain of Jiugong Mountain in Tongshan, Hubei Province. Li Zicheng mysteriously disappeared. After the rest of Li Zicheng's troops surrendered to the Qing Dynasty, he rebelled against the Manchu Dynasty and continued the anti-Qing struggle.
