Gu Sui (1897 - 1960)"An upright poet, but at the same time a profound scholar, an excellent master philosopher."-- Zhou Ruchang's evaluation of the teacher Gu Sui, whose real name is Gu Baosui, whose name is Xian Ji, whose pen name is Kushui, whose nickname is Tuoan, is from Qinghe County, Hebei Province. China is a great writer in the field of verse and prose, theoretical critic, aesthetic connoisseur, lecture artist, Zen scholar, calligrapher, and cultural academic research expert. Gu Sui was born on February 13, 1897 (the 23rd year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty). Gu Sui entered the family school when he was four or five years old. He studied the four books and five classics, Tang and Song poems and fables of the pre-Qin philosophers, and also read some novels. He entered Guangping Prefecture Middle School in 1907, took an exam at Peking University in the quarter of 1915, and passed the entrance examination of the Chinese Literature Department of Peking University. When the president of Peking University reviewed the examination, he found that Gu Sui's level of China literature was outstanding and suggested that he change to study Western literature. So Gu Sui first went to Beiyang University to specialize in English at the preparatory school, and two years later transferred to the English Department of Peking University. At Peking University, he gained a good understanding of Western language and literature. In the summer of 1920, he graduated and started attending Qingzhou Middle School in Shandong Province. In 1926, he taught at Tianjin Women's Normal University. He used Lu Xun's thoughts to point out the way for students. Thanks to his guidance, many students embarked on the road of revolution. In 1929, Gu Sui successively taught at Yanjing, Peiping, China-France, Beijing, China, Furen, Beijing Normal University and other universities. Gu Sui was a loyal child to the motherland and people all his life. When Beijing was peacefully liberated in 1949, he began to teach in universities and worked in Tianjin in 1953. His spirit was unprecedentedly bright and his enthusiasm for work was very high, but his health was getting worse. On September 6, 1960, Gu Sui died at his residence at Hebei University on Machang Road, Tianjin. In 1990, Mr. Gu Sui's disciples and disciples in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and other places gathered in Beijing to hold a "Commemorative Meeting to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Mr. Gu Sui's Death". Gu Sui has taught ancient China literature at Hebei Women's Normal University, Yanjing University, Fu Jen Catholic University, China and France University, China University, Beijing Normal University, Hebei University, Women's College of Arts and Sciences, China and France University, and China University.
