On this day, 47 years ago, on March 11, 1978 (February 3, 1978 in the lunar calendar), the state invested heavily in the construction of Baosteel. The scene of "Baosteel" under construction On March 11, 1978, the State Council agreed to the "Request for Instructions on the Site Selection, Construction Scale and Related Issues of the New Steel Plant in Shanghai" by the State Planning Commission, the Construction Committee, the Economic Commission, Shanghai City, and the Ministry of Metallurgy, and decided to introduce complete sets of equipment from Japan and build a new steel plant in Baoshan County, Shanghai. The factory area of Baoshan Iron and Steel Company covers an area of 11.11 square kilometers and consists of 5 major production plants including coking, ironmaking, steelmaking, preliminary rolling, and steel pipe, as well as auxiliary facilities such as self-contained power plants, energy centers, water transportation terminals, and central machine maintenance. Construction began in December 1978 and was carried out in two phases. The first phase of the project was completed and put into operation in September 1985, and the entire project was completed in 1991. In April 1998, the hot load test run of Baosteel's No. 3 sintering and raw material-related system project, an important project of Baosteel's third-phase project, was successful, marking that Baosteel has become the sintering enterprise with the largest output and the highest degree of modernization in China. Baoshan Iron and Steel Group ranked fifth in the 1994 evaluation of the 500 largest industrial enterprises in China.
