126 years ago today, on May 10, 1899 (April 1, 1899 lunar calendar), the Chinese painting master Zhang Daqian was born. Zhang Daqian is a famous Chinese painting master, born on May 10, 1899, from Neijiang, Sichuan. When he was young, he studied painting with his mother. In his youth, he studied under Zeng Xi and Li Ruiqing. He traveled to Japan to study painting and printing and dyeing crafts. He was twice involved in Dunhuang and was the first professional painter to copy ancient murals. Calligraphy is soft on the outside and tough on the inside, chasing after the Wei and Jin Dynasties. Painting gathers traditional elites and life in one furnace. He is strong with brushes, bright colors, elegant and changeable painting style. He is his own family. He is good at landscapes, flowers and birds, and figures. He was elected as the first major contemporary painter by the World Artists Association in New York, USA. In his later years, he made friends with Picasso and expressed admiration for each other. Zhang Daqian's works were rich, including "Wanli Map of the Yangtze River" and "Lushan Map". He lived overseas after the age of 50 and died in Taipei on April 2, 1983.
