On this day, 45 years ago, on May 4, 1980 (March 20, 1980 in the lunar calendar), Yugoslav President Tito died of illness. Josip Broz Tito (May 7, 1892-May 4, 1980) was born into a poor peasant family in Croatia. His childhood life was very difficult. He went out to make a living at the age of 15. He worked as a cowher, a restaurant usher and an apprentice, and worked as a hardware worker in China and in the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. At the age of 20, he joined the Croatian Social Democratic Party. In 1913, Tito was drafted into the army. In World War I, he was punished for inciting anti-war and was later captured by the Russian army. In 1920, he returned to China to join the Communist Party of Yugoslavia and organized workers to carry out revolutionary struggles. During the long revolutionary struggle, Tito was arrested three times. After being released from prison in 1934, he continued to engage in revolutionary activities and was elected as a member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee. In 1935, Tito went to the Soviet Union to participate in the work of the Communist International as alternate secretary of the Balkan Secretariat. This experience greatly improved his theory. In 1938, problems occurred with the leadership of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, and the Communist International prepared to dissolve the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. Tito persuaded the main leaders to retain the Communist Party of South Korea on the basis of party consolidation, and he also became the main leader of the party. From then on, the Communist Party of South Korea embarked on a path of healthy development. In the struggle against fascist invaders and for freedom and liberation, he led the Yugoslav people in a heroic and unyielding struggle. On April 6, 1941, the German and Italian fascist invaders quickly occupied Yugoslavia with 23 divisions. On June 27, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia established the Yugoslav People's Guerrilla Command, with Tito as commander-in-chief, launching a nationwide July Uprising and establishing the first Jiefang District in the mountainous areas of western Serbia centered on Uzice. In December of the same year, in an offensive against the German army, Tito created the first regular army-the "First Proletarian Brigade". He led this team to resist the war independently for more than 20 months without foreign aid and smashed seven enemy attacks. During the Battle of Sujeska, Tito became the only commander-in-chief to be wounded on the battlefield during World War II. In November 1943, Tito was awarded the title of Marshal. Despite the opposition of major powers, he announced that the Anti-Fascist People's Liberation Council would serve as the interim government of Yugoslavia. A year later, the People's Liberation Army, which had grown to nearly one million people, cooperated with the Soviet Red Army to liberate Belgrade. On November 29, 1945, the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia was proclaimed, and Tito served as Chairman and Supreme Commander of the Federal Government. Tito is a highly respected political activist on the international stage. The 1955 Asia-Africa Conference inspired him and gave rise to the seeds of non-alignment ideas. On 9, 1961, with the participation of Yugoslavia, the first Summit of Non-Aligned Countries was held in Belgrade. In view of Tito's unique and outstanding role in opposing hegemonism, maintaining world peace and striving for human progress, 59 countries awarded him 98 medals.
