Seventy-six years ago today, on January 31, 1949 (January 3, 1949), the Battle of Pingjin ended and Peiping was peacefully liberated. The People's Liberation Army held a ceremony to enter the city. The Battle of Pingjin was the last battle in the three decisive battles of the Liberation War. After the liberation of Northeast China, more than 500,000 people of the Kuomintang North China "General Suppression" Fu Zuoyi Group, who were guarding the front lines of Zhangjiakou, Peiping, Tianjin and Tangshan, were faced with the joint attack of the Northeast and North China Liberation Army. Whether to withdraw or defend, Chiang Kai-shek and Fu Zuoyi had their own plans. Although their propositions were different, they all overestimated their own strength, and underestimated the strength of our army. Therefore, Fu Zuoyi Group adopted the policy of temporarily sticking to Pingjin, ensuring Haikou, and observing the changes in the war situation. In order to prevent the Fu Zuoyi Group from retreating south and west, the Central Military Commission and Mao Zedong decided to jointly hold the Pingjin Campaign with the main force of the Northeast Field Army and the North China Military Region to annihilate the Fu Zuoyi Group on the spot, and took the following measures: the Northeast Field Army immediately ended its rest, took a shortcut to enter the customs at the fastest speed, suddenly surrounded the enemies of Tangshan, Tanggu and Tianjin, and cut off the enemy's sea retreat; Xu Qianqian's Corps stopped attacking Taiyuan, and Yang Chengwu's Corps retreated to Sui (now Hohhot) to prevent Fu Zuoyi from fleeing to the northwest after losing the battle; through negotiations with Fu Zuoyi, it was stabilized. In the Battle of Pingjin, the total number of PLA troops participating in the war was more than 1 million. The Central Committee decided that Lin Biao, Luo Ronghuan, and Nie Rongzhen would form the party's general front committee. Lin Biao was the secretary and took over all matters in Pingjin, Tianjin, Zhang, Tang and other places in a unified command. After the Battle of Pingjin began, our army first divided and surrounded the Fu Zuoyi Group, cut off its retreat to the west and south, and turned this terrified bird into a caged bird. Then, according to the order of attack established by Mao Zedong, the enemies who were besieged in Xinbao, Zhangjiakou, Tianjin and other places were annihilated one by one, and Tianjin and Tanggu were liberated. After the liberation of Tianjin, 250,000 defenders in Beiping were in a desperate situation. In order to protect the ancient cultural city of Peiping, the Central Military Commission decided to continue negotiations with Fu Zuoyi and strive for a peaceful takeover of Peiping. Through negotiations, Fu Zuoyi accepted Mao Zedong's "eight conditions for peace" and led his ministry to accept the peaceful reorganization. On January 31, 1949, the Battle of Pingjin ended successfully, the People's Liberation Army entered Peiping City, and Peiping declared complete liberation. More than a month later, on March 15, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was moved from Xibaipo to Peiping, and the headquarters of the People's Liberation Army was also moved to Peiping. After more than six months, on October 1, 1949, the People's Republic of China was established, and Peiping was designated as the capital and changed to Beijing.
