Lee Byung-chul was born on Feb. 12, 1910, into a wealthy peasant family in Yining County, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. His grandfather was a scholar, and Lee Byung-chul spent his childhood in the courtyard of the "Wenshan Bookstore" owned by his grandfather. Although he was smart since childhood, he was also very playful, and for this he was often scolded by his father.

In order to change his son's bad habit of being playful and naughty, his father sent little Li Bingzhe to study in a distant school. In this new school, Li Bingzhe learned a lot of things and was no longer so naughty. Later, he entered Seoul to study in middle school. When he was in the third grade of middle school, his parents arranged a marriage for him according to the custom of early marriage in his hometown. In April 1930, Li Bingzhe was admitted to Waseda University's Department of Political Science and Economics. In his sophomore year, because he did not adapt to the Japanese climate, Li Bingzhe had to return to his hometown due to serious foot problems. With the help of his father, he opened a grain processing plant. In 1936, he established the Mashan Rice Milling Cooperative Factory. In 1938, he founded the Samsung Chamber of Commerce. In 1967, he was forced to resign due to the "saccharin smuggling incident". In February of the following year, he returned to On February 8, 1983, the "Tokyo Declaration" was issued, officially entering the semiconductor industry. In November 1987, Lee Byung-chul passed away, and on December 1, his third son Lee Kun-hee became the new chairperson of Samsung Group.
