On April 18, 2004 (February 29 of the 2004 lunar calendar), starting from 0:00, the national railways officially implemented the fifth large-scale speed-up. At 0:00 on April 18, 2004, the fifth large-scale speed-up mapping was implemented. In this speed-up map adjustment, some sections of several major trunk lines have basically reached the requirement of 200 kilometers per hour; the total mileage of the speed-up network is more than 16500 kilometers; and the average travel speed of railway passenger trains across the country has reached 65.7 kilometers per hour.
