On this day, 76 years ago, May 9, 1949 (April 12, 1949, the People's Liberation Army began to liberate the Northwest. Various armies of the People's Liberation Army marched to various battlefields across the country. On May 9, 1949, under the command of Peng Dehuai, commander and political commissar of the First Field Army of the People's Liberation Army, the war to liberate the Northwest began. By May 17, Kuomintang Hu Zongnan's troops fled from Yaoxian and Sanyuan to the Jingwei River Valley. Xi'an was liberated on the 18th. On July 10, Yang Dezhi led the 19th Corps into the highlands north of Qian County and Liquan, surrounded the five armies of southern Huzong gathered in the Fufeng and Mei County areas, and wiped out more than 43,000 enemy troops from the four armies. From the 21st to the 24th, the First, Second and 19th Corps of the People's Liberation Army successively occupied Bin County, Changwu, Jingchuan and Pingliang. On August 10, Qingshui, Qin 'an, Wushan and other areas were liberated. More than 20 days of pursuit wiped out more than 10,000 enemies and liberated the vast area of eastern Gansu. On the 25th, they attacked Lanzhou and wiped out more than 27,000 enemy Ma Bufang troops. On the 26th, Lanzhou was liberated. On September 5, Wang Zhen led the First Corps to liberate Xining. On the 9th, the 19th Corps divided into three routes to Ningxia. On the 19th, Ma Hongbin led the 81st Army of the Kuomintang to revolt, and Ma Hongkui fled to Chongqing. Ningxia was liberated on the 23rd. On the 19th, Dong Qiwu, Chairman of the Kuomintang Suiyuan Province, led 50,000 officers and soldiers to televise an uprising. On the 26th, Tao Zhiyue, Commander-in-Chief of the Kuomintang Xinjiang Garrison, and Bauerhan, Chairman of the Xinjiang Provincial Government, led 100,000 people to conduct an uprising by electricity. At this point, the task of liberating the Northwest has been completed. On September 5,1949, the First Field Army occupied Xining, and the People's Liberation Army entered Xinjiang on August 26,1949.
