Breaking-News >> TodayHistory April 14, 1962 Cuba tried the "invaders" and demanded ransom
On this day, 63 years ago, April 14, 1962 (March 10, 1962 in the lunar calendar), Cuba tried the "invaders" and demanded ransom. The Bay of Pigs invaders will be flown back to the United States on April 14, 1962. Cuba's military court has tried 1179 Cuban exiles who participated in last year's successful Bay of Pigs landings. A five-member jury found the defendant guilty of "treason at the instigation of foreign forces." The "foreign power" refers to the United States. According to Cuban officials, the U.S. government planned the attack through the CIA. The anti-Castro invaders were sentenced to 30 years in prison. But if a ransom of $62 million is paid, they will be released. This "bargain-for-money imprisonment" ruling aroused the interest of Americans. U.S. representatives are preparing to fly to Havana tomorrow to negotiate the issue. However, it is questionable whether the Kennedy administration will be able to pay ransom for the prisoners (last year, Washington rejected Castro's request to redeem them with 500 tractors). U.S. government officials may encourage individual citizens and Cuban exile organizations to raise the ransom.
