On this day 31 years ago, on April 19, 1994 (March 9, 1994 in the lunar calendar), the main perpetrators of the "Qiandao Lake" incident were arrested. On April 19, 1994, the Zhejiang Provincial Procuratorate approved the arrest of Wu Lihong, Hu Zhihan, and Yu Aijun, the perpetrators of robbery and arson and murder on the cruise ship "Hai Rui" in Qiandao Lake, according to law. On June 12, 1994, three criminals were convicted of robbery and intentional homicide by the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court of Zhejiang Province. They were sentenced to death and deprived of political rights for life. At 16:00 on March 31, 1994, the three defendants took a motorboat with the tools of the crime to the waters near Monkey Island in Qiandao Lake to wait for an opportunity to commit crimes. When the cruise ship "Hai Rui" carrying Taiwanese tourists passed through Monkey Island by Chun'an County Economic and Trade Company, the three defendants followed by boat and boarded the "Hai Rui" near Aci Island at 18:30. Yu Aijun, Hu Zhihan, and Wu Lihong boarded the cruise ship one after another with shotguns, axes, and other tools. After boarding the ship, they first used shotguns and axes to force the crew and two tour guides into the bottom cabin, and then forced the passengers on board to hand over their belongings. They deceived and coerced all tourists into entering the bottom cabin as long as the money did not hurt their lives, and then drove the "Hai Rui" to the scheduled sinking location - the deep water area of Huangniling waters. On the way, Hu Zhihan and Yu Aijun threw the iron ladder leading to the bottom cabin into the lake. Wu Lihong twisted the bottom hatch door with wire. Yu Aijun opened the fire hydrant on the cruise ship according to the scheduled wreck extinguishment plan, and failed to pour water into the bottom cabin. Wu Lihong then threw three packs of explosives into the bottom cabin, which caused fire in the oil tank of the bottom cabin. The three defendants also fired several shots into the bottom cabin. Wu Lihong dumped a spare bucket of gasoline on the motorboat into the bottom cabin, causing a fire in the bottom cabin and spraying it outside the cabin. The three defendants fled the scene in a boat. That night, they divided the stolen goods of more than 5,000 US dollars, 150,000 Taiwan dollars, 3,000 yuan and rings. The stolen cameras and video cameras were hidden by Wu Prisoner. A total of 32 people were killed in the incident, including 24 Taiwanese compatriots who came to the mainland for tourism. The case was solved on April 17 after a 17-day day and night investigation by the public security organs.
