On this day 127 years ago, on September 13, 1898 (July 28, 1898 in the lunar calendar), the Chinese historian and social activist Zhou Gucheng was born. Zhou Gucheng, a Chinese historian and social activist. Born on September 13, 1898 (July 28, Guangxu 24th) in Yiyang County, Hunan Province, he was admitted to the English Department of Beijing Higher Normal School (now the predecessor of Beijing Normal University) in 1921. After graduation, he taught at Hunan First Normal University. During the Great Revolution, he was influenced by Mao Zedong's thought and participated in the peasant movement. He served as a consultant to the Hunan Provincial Farmers Association, a teacher at the Provincial Farmers Movement Workshop, and a secretary of the Preparatory Committee of the National Farmers Association. From 1927 to 1930, he taught at the High School Affiliated to Jinan University in Shanghai and the China Public School. From 1930 to 1933, Zhou Gucheng served as a professor and head of the Department of Sociology at Sun Yat-sen University. From 1932 to 1942, he served as a professor and head of the Department of History and Society at Jinan University. In the autumn of 1942, he taught at Fudan University and served as the head of the Department of History and the provost. In September 1949, he attended the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He served as a member of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and director of the Cultural and Educational Committee, vice chairperson of the Shanghai Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference, deputy to the First, Second, Third and Fifth National People's Congress, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Sixth and Seventh National People's Congress and chairperson of the Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee; member He served as the executive director and member of the presidium of the Chinese Historical Society, the first executive chairperson, the president of the China Pacific Historical Society, the vice chairperson of the Shanghai Federation of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and the president of the Shanghai Historical Society. On November 10, 1996, Zhou Gucheng died in Shanghai at the age of 98. He published more than ten monographs and more than 200 papers: "Life System", "New Theory of Rural Society", "Chinese Social History" three volumes, "General History of China" two volumes, "Chinese Political History", "Evolution of Chinese Historiography", "General History of the World" three volumes, "Hegelian Logical Outline", "Zero Evidence of Ancient History", "Formal Logic and Dialectics", "History and Aesthetics", "Poetry Collection" and so on.
