On this day, 26 years ago, January 5, 1999 (November 18, 1998, the Chinese calendar), the state established an anti-smuggling police team. In order to severely crack down on illegal smuggling activities, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council decided to establish a national anti-smuggling police team. On January 5, 1999, while the Smuggling Crime Investigation Bureau of the General Administration of Customs was officially established, a law enforcement team specializing in combating smuggling crimes-the Customs Anti-smuggling Police Team has implemented a new anti-smuggling struggle system of "joint anti-smuggling, unified handling, and comprehensive management". The anti-smuggling police are under the dual leadership of the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Public Security, with customs leaders as the main leader. Within the territory of the Republic, the anti-smuggling police investigate and arrest tax-related smuggling criminal cases in accordance with the law, and conduct investigation, detention, arrest and pre-trial work on smuggling criminal cases and smuggling suspects in accordance with the law.
