108 years ago today, April 26, 1917 (March 6, 1917, the lunar calendar) was the birthday of the world-renowned architect I.M. Pei. As a baby, Pei Ming sat on his mother's lap, and Pei Pei's sister was on the right. I.M. Pei was born in Guangdong in 1917 and grew up in Suzhou. At the age of 17, he traveled across oceans and came to the United States to study. He studied architectural design at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. At the age of 31, he resigned as a teacher, accepted an invitation from American real estate giant Zekentov, and started designing commercial housing, and later founded his own design company. Some representative projects he designed include projects such as the East Tower of the National Museum of Art, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library, and the reconstruction of the Louvre in Paris. These buildings of his, known as passionate geometric structures, have also become classics of modernism. He has received countless honors in his life, designing works such as museums, art galleries, office buildings, bell towers, and even rock concert halls. I.M. Pei designed buildings in all major cities in the United States, and his works are also in France, Iran, Singapore, Canada, Australia, and Spain. I.M. Pei has three sons and one daughter, and his wife was also a student studying in the United States at that time. Although the children were born in the United States and naturalized in the United States, they all have China names and have the word "Chinese" in their names, so that the children never forget the motherland. I.M. Pei has been engaged in architectural design for nearly 40 years and is recognized as a first-class architect in the world. He designed buildings all over the world, with more than 40 main works, 22 of which won awards. He was also responsible for the expansion of the world-famous Louvre in Paris. He also encountered many problems in the design of the Bank of China Building in Hong Kong. To this end, Bank of China Hong Kong Branch and I.M. Pei spent a lot of time repeatedly negotiating with the relevant departments of the British authorities in Hong Kong, and finally the design was carried out smoothly. People call I.M. Pei a "genius" and a "modernist design master" in the architectural design world, which is by no means a compliment. The awards hanging on the wall of his office are the best proof. After awarding I.M. Pei a gold medal in 1979, the National Academy of Architecture elected him the "Best Large-Scale Non-Residential Architectural Designer" in 1982. He also received the 1983 International Pritzker Architecture Prize. The New York-based Asia Society awarded him the award for his diverse, magnificent buildings for China and other Asian countries, which helped enhance understanding between the United States and Asian countries. Shanghai Tongji University awarded him the title of "Honorary Professor". In 1964, I.M. Pei was selected as the designer of the Kennedy Library. This is his first design plan for the Kennedy Library made by I.M. Pei at a press conference (Jacqueline, left), which features a truncated glass pyramid rising from the ground in a circular courtyard.
