More than 60,000 Congress Party supporters were arrested along with Gandhi. On January 4, 1932, Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian Independence Movement, and other members of his Congress Party were imprisoned again. After the failure of the London talks, the British authorities intensified their pressure on Gandhi and his followers, and the Mahatma encouraged the Indian people to strengthen domestic anti-British activities. "Wake up from your sleep!" Gandhi said when issuing the order to boycott British goods,"No foreign clothes, no anesthetics. Don't be violent.
