107 years ago today, on October 14, 1918 (September 10, 1918, the Journalism Research Society of Peking University, my country's first news research institution, was established. On October 14, 1918, the Peking University Journalism Research Society was officially established. This is the first journalism research group in China and the beginning of journalism education in China. Principal Cai Yuanpei drew up a charter for the meeting, stipulating that its purpose is to "instill news knowledge and cultivate news talents." The main contents of the research include the scope of news, topic selection, interviews, editing, communication methods, and the organization of newspapers and news agencies. The president is Cai Yuanpei, and Professor Xu Baohuang, who returned from studying in the United States, and the famous journalist Shao Piaoping serve as mentors. Xu, Shao and others used Sunday mornings to give lectures to members and impart journalistic knowledge. The association also published Newsweek, which was the only newspaper in China to disseminate journalistic knowledge at that time, and was also the first newspaper in China to adopt a horizontal format.
