102 years ago today, on March 4, 1923 (January 17, 1923), Hu Shi vigorously advocated the study of Sinology. On March 4, 1923, "Reading Magazine" published Hu Shi's article "A Minimum Bibliography of Sinology". Hu Shi said in the preface: This bibliography was prepared by Hu Junduyuan and four others from Tsinghua University. They are all teenagers who are going to study abroad and really want to acquire the common sense of Sinology in a short period of time. Therefore, when I drew up this bibliography, I did not envision it for people who have roots in Sinology, but only for ordinary young people who want a little systematic knowledge of Sinology. This is the first point I want to make. Although this is a bibliography, it is also a method. This method can be called "the study method of Sinology in history". In the past four or five years, I don't know how many letters I have received from young friends asking about "what is the way to govern the country". At first, I also learned the style of the old predecessors, persuading people to start with "primary school" and persuading people to pass phonological exegesis first. But I have recently repented! That kind of words are for experts, not for beginners; it is a facade for scholars, not a fascinating way for educators. The study of phonological exegesis itself has not yet sorted out a clue system. How can it be used as a starting point for beginners? More than ten years of experience make me unable to deny that the study of phonological exegesis can only be used as a tool for "scholars", not a door for "beginners". To be honest, there is no path to Sinology today; most of those who have achieved success in Sinology have worked hard to do it. At this time when there is no path, I have come up with a way to start: to use historical clues as our natural system, and to use this natural order of continuous evolution to do the process of our governance of Sinology. This bibliography is based on this concept. The order of this bibliography is the way to start. This is the second point I want to make.
