Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On January 1, 1917, Hu Shi launched a literary reform movement
On this day, 108 years ago, on January 1, 1917 (December 8, 1916 in the lunar calendar), Hu Shi launched the literary reform movement. Hu Shi, an advocate of Hu Shi's literary improvement, responded to the fact that literature is far from life and full of clichés. Hu Shi published the article "Literary Improvement Disputes" in Volume 2, No. 5 of "New Youth"(published on January 1, 1917). Hu Shi believes that literary improvement should start from eight aspects, that is, words must be meaningful, not imitating the ancients, and grammar must be emphasized; Don't groan without illness; get rid of bad tunes and idioms; don't use classics; don't talk about confrontation; don't avoid vulgar words and want to speak. He proposed that vernacular literature should be regarded as the authenticity of China literature. When talking about literary content, Hu Shi believed that real literature should "be in line with today's society." This article and Chen Duxiu's later "On Literary Revolution" became a denunciation of the New Culture Movement.
