On this day 50 years ago, on April 23, 1975 (March 12, 1975 lunar calendar), Sikkim was incorporated into India. Sikkim covers an area of 7,100 square kilometers and has a population of more than 310,000. 75% are Nepalese, the rest are Sikkim and Rebcha, and believe in Qin Lamaism and Hinduism. In 1890, Sikkim became a British protectorate. In 1950, it became a protectorate of India. In April 1973, India entered Sikkim and took over all the powers of the Sikkim government. In July of the following year, the Sikkim Parliament passed the Government Act, which stipulated that the Sikkim government could participate in the political institutions of India. In September, the Indian Parliament passed the constitution, which stipulated that Sikkim was an "associated state" of India.
