He is the author of "Huangji Jingshi","Yichuan Striking Rang Collection","Fisherman and Woodcutter Questions", etc. Nine volumes of the Complete Works of Mr. Shao Yaofu's Poems were unearthed from the Song Dynasty Tomb in Xingzi County, Jiangxi Province in 1975.

In his youth, Yong was known for his eagerness to learn. The "History of the Song Dynasty" records: "When Yong was young, he was generous with his talents and wanted to make a name for himself. When he read everything in books, he began to learn, that is, he was hard-working and hard-working, cold without furnace, heat without fan, and night without sitting at the table for several years. He sighed and said: 'The old people were still friends in ancient times, but I was not in the four directions.' So he crossed the river and Fen, involved Huai, Han, Zhou Liuqi, Lu, Song, and Zheng Zhixu. After a long time, he came back and said: 'The Tao is here.' Then he did not return.

Hou Yong lived in Luoyang and made close acquaintances with Sima Guang, Ercheng, and Lv Gong. Shao Yong, Ercheng, Zhou Dunyi, and Zhang Zai are collectively known as the "Five Sons of the Northern Song Dynasty".

In the first year of Emperor Renzong of Song Dynasty (1049), he settled in Luoyang and made a living as a professor. In the seventh year of Jiayou (1062), he moved to the south of Tianjin Bridge in the west of Tiangong Temple in Luoyang, and called himself Mr. An Le.

In the early years of Song Renzong Jiayou and Song Shenzong Xining, they were promoted twice, but both said they were ill and did not go. He died in 1077. Song Zhezong awarded the posthumous title of Kangjie during the Yuanyou period. There is a biography in Volume 427 of the History of Song Dynasty.
