Jose Francisco de St. Martin Matoras

On February 12, 1817, during the Chilean War of Independence, the famous Battle of Chacabuco was fought, and José de St. Martin led the Argentine and Chilean rebels to defeat the Spanish army.

The Andean Army led by La Prata United Provincial General José de San Martín defeated the Spanish troops and declared the failure of the Chilean Governorate and the liberation of Chile. After that, Spain assigned the area under its control to the Peruvian Governorate.

Jose de St. Martin's full name is Jose Francisco de St. Martin Matoras, an Argentine general and one of the leaders of the Spanish colonial wars of independence in South America. He liberated southern South America from Spanish rule and, along with Simon Bolivar, is known as the liberator of the Americas and is regarded as a national hero.
