Sixty years ago today, on March 7, 1965 (February 5, 1965 lunar calendar), black Americans held a Freedom March. Martin Luther King Jr. led a peaceful march to Montgomery. On March 7, 1965, a demonstration of black Americans for civil rights advanced to Montgomery, the state capital. On the way, it was blocked by the authorities and violently dispersed the march. One of the demonstrators was killed. This triggered a protest march of tens of thousands of blacks demanding an end to racial discrimination.
